Worth the time?

I just finished reading Black Sun Rising, the first book in the "Coldfire" trilogy by C.S. Friedman. I found one of the central characters, Gerald Tarrant, to be interesting, but the overall plot left me, well, cold. I'm not sure that I'm interested in reading the rest of the series. It's not as if I've got any money invested from having already purchased them, since I get them from the library.

Has anyone else read the series? Any thoughts?

No. None.

But speaking of George R.R. Martin, I just discovered there was a movie made of Sandkings; one of my favorite stories from the old Omni magazine. Have you seen it?

"Sandkings" -- Two-hour TV movie for The Outer Limits, Showtime, 1995, teleplay by Melinda M. Snodgrass.

I haven't seen the movie, or even heard of it until just now. Honestly, I'm still pretty new to Martin. I started his Song of Ice and Fire series about a year and a half ago and devoured it in pretty short order. I haven't gotten around to expanding to his work beyond that yet.

As far as I can tell from his blog, I think I would enjoy his other stories. I'm sure I'll get to them eventually.
